Galeshwar. Due to lack of timely winter rains and lack of snow in the Lekali area, the entire forest of Myagdi has caught fire. According to the Myagdi District Forest Division Office, fires have broken out in 25 different places in the district.
District Forest Officer Chandramani Sapkota said that six out of eight wards of Annapurna rural municipality are currently burning in various places. According to him, most of the parts of the district where the fire occurred are snowfall areas, but due to the lack of snowfall and rain, the fire is increasing due to dryness.
Most of the areas that are affected by fires are hills far away from human settlements. Even in the higher part of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality of Western Myagdi, the fire has started to bother us. The fire is also raging in the higher areas of Dhavalagiri-4 Mudi Bhag. The forest office has informed that the fire is causing a lot of damage to the forest area.
It is said that the fire is raging in Gurja, Mudi, Kuhine Mangale, Chimkhola areas of the district. “Fires are burning in at least 25 places this year, and this trend is still increasing,” said Forest Officer Sapkota.
He informed that there was no fire in the Hattapatt forest during the rains, but now there are reports of fires every day. Forest Officer Sapkota said that last year, due to heavy snowfall in the winter, it was difficult to walk up to the settlement, but this time, as there was no snow even in the higher areas, the dryness has increased and the fire has increased.
“Since there was no rain and no snow after Asoj, now the dryness has increased”, he said. It has not even rained, so the ground has become dry. Cold is nowhere to be seen.’
